Wifey won't watch old series

Gang,
My wife and I have been watching the new series, and she enjoys it. As you all know, I loved the old series. I watched it when I was 7, and it got me interested in science, going into college with a chemical engineering degree. I always tell people I love the old series, I like the new series.
I asked her why she wouldn't watch the old series. She said it wouldn't be fair, because of the technology available and the times back in 1978, that it wouldn't be fair. That if she watched it when she was 6, and events the way they were then, it might be different.
The thing is, I understand that. How do I convince her to watch?

Ask her if she'd watch Star Wars, Eps 4 through 6 with ya. When she says yeah, then lay the smackdown on her that osBG's FX were done by the SAME guy duringthe SAME time period, so that is no excuse not to watch it

I agree with Warrior. If that doesn't work, tie her to a chair and watch the entire Classic series over and over again until she cracks.
My wife has never watched sci fi, Westerns or war movies. She like that mushy girly stuff.
She can't understand Sci Fi. She doesn't understand that a lot of things that were sci fi at one time are science fact now.
Jules Verne was ahead of himself. Submarines, space voyages, flight and lots of other things that we now take for granted.
When Star Trek came out people thought it was camp, but look at some of the things that teh first series had. In a book that I read in 1968 about the making of Star Trek, it stated that Hospitals wanted the sound effects for the intercom so they could page their staff. Pase pistols are not pure fiction. The US Govt visited the set and asked where they got some of their ideas on weapons that the Government was ecperimenting with. Hey the communicators just might of been the idea for cell phones.
If none of teh arguments or non stop reruns work, you do have a turbo flush, don't you? Just kidding. Set her down with tapes of bagpipes for 12 hours non stop.

well,
In my opinion you can't force someone to do what they don't want to............be happy she is watching the new show and that you both seem to enjoy it.

Thanks for the advice!
Actually, she hasn't seen any of the Star Wars movies.
Gasp you say? I couldn't believe it either.
I think she's relented. Will let you know how it works out.
She's confused that they only had one name in TOS.

What do you mean relented?
Let me try to explain. I haven't set down to watch a full episode since I bought the set. Why? Because I am CONSTANTLY searching through episodes trying to match actors with characters to mail auto requests to. I told her I couldn't watch it to enjoy it because I would always be looking for some actor with a bit part (i.e., warrior, pilot, security guard without a name) to send a request to. So she said that when I would set down to enjoy an episode, so would she.
Well, I've got most of the credited actors done. So I'm trying to find a time that we can set down and watch Saga.

They only had one name back then. Adama, Apollo, Boomer, etc. In TNG, that's their callsign. It's Lee "poor imitation Apollo" Adama, William "why Husker" Adama, Sharon "why do they call you Boomer" Valerri, Saul "inebriated" Tigh.

For some people, the matter of having only one name is just unfathomable.
I mean, what if you run into two Adamas, or two Apollos...or two Athenas. How do you address one from the other if they are in the same room? (especially assuming you are not aware that there is another Athena in the room?)
Setup:
Council chambers....there are two females named Athena in the room. You intend to address only one of them.
"Ahem....Athena?"
"Yes?"
"Yes?"
"No, no...I'm sorry, I meant, Athena?"
"Yes?"
"Yes?"
Irreverently,

Simple. One is Athena, daughter of Adama *or* Athena, House of Adama.

I can think of many examples on Earth. Moses, Joshua, Abraham, Jesus, all had one name amd were distinguished by the son of so and so.

historically lots of people only had one name. (and in some parts of the world still do..)
If you met another with the same, the difference might be noted with a by name (the long, the red, etc) or by your place of origin (of London, of Lynton-on-Lee, the Gaul) These could be very temporary., and not always flattering, many were not used to the persons face!!
The Welsh made an art of family linages in their names (Owen ap Owen ap Gruffydd ap Owen), but then they had bards with fantastic memories to sing their praises (and remeber the lines...)
So it might be..
'Athena?"
"Which one? Athena, daughter of Adama?, or Athena wife of Olias?.."
Cheers,
Lara
