Think Geisha.  They weren't prostitutes so much as they were companions - well read, skilled in arts beyond the obvious.  Accepted by some, reviled by others.

Well, based on the quote "Next time it's office rates, Lieutenant!", I think we can safely say that socialators also offered sex, along with companionship.  Or maybe Starbuck and Cassie were playing charades in the launch tube . . . and, alone, I took that scene out of context . . .

I think it's really interesting actually, that fans tend to glamorize the whole socialator role.  After all, if it was really meant to be so much more glamorous than a prostitute/call girl/lady of the evening/etc, than surely Larson wouldn't have felt the need to change the character to a med tech.

The tryst in the launch tube was just that. Both were in the mood, willing, and able, until it was suddenly and without prior notice converted into a sauna. Cheesy
Cassie's comments on Carillon were sarcasm, pure and simple, tinged with a natural and understandable ire. She had yet to discover what a two-faced fellow SB can be.
You are right about fans glamourizing the socialator thing. It was merely one facet of an entire socirty. Period.

Yes, but the sarcasm was directed at how the fling was obviously meaningless to Cassie, since she had reduced it to merely another business arrangement.  She was cutting Starbuck down to client status, and letting him know the freebees were over.

Well, at least until he saved her from ingestion by the ovions.  Apparently, he redeemed himself somewhat after that.

You answer these things faster than a credit card overdraw!!!!!!!

Yes Cassie felt differently after being saved from the Ovion Bar-N-Grill. As to the rest of it, I guess we just see it differently.  But that's okay.......it's okay if you're wrong.   Evil

Yes, the realist versus the romantic.  And we both know that you're the romantic, Sen.  Smiley
