right now the details are not clear but the news is reporting shots fired in a local high school.  It is in the foothills about 25 minutes away from me.  They say there is a man holding some kids hostage and may have an explosive device.  I will let you all know.  right now, let's pray for the kids and for everyone to be safe.

Right now it is down to two female students being held hostage by an adult male.  No other details about the man is known yet.  I pray the girls will return to their families unharmed and there wil be no injuries in this tragedy

So far, no motive, no clue what triggered this.  I expect the details will emerge slowly over the next few days.  But it is impossible for a competent mind to predict what a defective mind is going to do.

I hope the resolution of this tragedy will bring closure to the people hurt the most.

I am having a hard time with this...............Between columbine and now this it is very hard to be a parent sending your children to school each day.  That sixteen year old girl just woke up and went to school never knowing it was her last day...............never knowing going to school would end her life...............      her parents never thinking like the parents of the columbine student's that it would be the last time your child would be alive.............

I know.  I've got grandkids in school now and I do worry.

But remember that this kind of thing is a rarity.  Think of the thousands of schools all across the country where nothing like this ever happens.  Statistically speaking, it's a vanishingly small chance that something like this will happen at any given school.

The lessons that were learned at Columbine helped on a couple of occassions since in stopping similar plans.  The lessons from this event will help make the schools that truly are vulnerable to this kind of thing safer - once we learn what those lessons are.

And it could be that when the facts are known we will find out that today was truly an aberration, and unforeseeable tragedy that could not have been stopped.

I have definite opinions on this subject but they are not politically correct opinions - and they will wait for another day.

Right now, all we can do is support the families and community who have been hurt by today's events.

I appreciate that Dawg,
I am a bit better this morning.  I was in a lot of pain last night for the girl and her family.  I still am very saddened that this happened and it is so sensless to me.  More details comming today, there was a teenage boy that tried to stay with the girls until the gunman put the gun in his face...........he was on the today show this morning.  What a brave young man.  I pray for everyone involved that they can be healed from this and learn what we can from this tragedy.

One thing Dawg................
for me, I have been on the wrong side of the odds so many times that that fact while it is true and I understand it rarely comforts me.  I know it not logical nor even sensible but my history is what speaks to me at times like this.  The lesson here..............tell your loved ones you love them, hug them, cherish them, treat them as if it may be the last time you will see them...........in fact it may be.

I too have grandkids aand I do worry about them. In this case it wasn't even a student who did this terrible thing.

Yesterdaya 14 yr old girl was kidnapped at knife point from a school bus stop in front of witnesses by a family acquaintence who had a fixatation on the girl. He is 21. They made it from Chandler to just before the Arizona California boarder before he was captured. Even then he used the girl as a shield.

Fortunately she was rescued.
