Hi..I thought you might like to go flying with me so here we go. I hope
you can imagine it as we go.
It's a warm sunny morning as I come to pick you up in my convertable.
The tops down and there's a gentle breeze blowing as we head out to the airstrip. It's at the far end of the county..Just a very small airport with only two runways.
We'll get you all set as I go down and give them our flight plan for the morning.  First, we'll get you all set up with the proper gear. You'll get your helmet and goggles, Just to make it special  I got you a bright yellow  silk scarf to wear.
OK..We're ready to go now. You're going to ride up in the front and i"ll be right behind you.  We've been given the ok and we'll start to taxi down to the first runway.
After we've been given clearence we begin our takeoff.  This is not like any takeoff you've ever been on before. you're going to be able to watch as the ground disappears beneath us,feeling the wind in your face.. hold on. As we pick up speed, we're gently being lifted off the ground.
We're now airborne and as we given the tower a tilt of our wings, we're off on a great adventure. At times we'll be flying high above the trees and at others we'll be skimming across the open fields.
Our first heading will be out to Mr. Carmichaels farm.  He's cutting hay this week so we'll go there  and have some fun.  Nothing smells as sweet as fresh mowed hay as we glide over the acres and acres of it.  If you look closely, he's waving at us as well fly over head. Now remember we're not going that fast. At top speed were doing not much more then 125 MPH..Race cars on a Sunday afternoon at the track will be going faster then we are.
As we turn to east we're going to climb a little higher ..cresting over the mountain in front of us and heading down toward the lake...carefully trying not to scare the geese as they swim slowly on the clear water..If you look over toward the shore you can see the deer as they come down to drink from the cool waters, their young fawns standing beside them.
As we begin to climb higher, you're going to get a look of the ground.  Softly rolling hills and pastures. Cattle grazing, children playing. It's a beautiful patchwork quilt of God's own design. as far as your eyes can see.The trees are all different shades of green and blowing gently in the early morning sun. The sky is so blue, it looks like it's a painting, only made more beautiful by the white puffy clouds.
AS we bank back toward the airport, if you look down below us you can see a redtail hawk as he circles the fields looking for his next prey. Everytime I fly, I feel like I'm closer to God and in His heaven..You're out there in the open..flyingas our grandfathers and the fathers did before us. Not trying to beat time  ..just flying along with the birds and enjoying what it means to be up there.
It's now time to head home, land our little bird and wait for our next flight.

So where did you pick up a bi-plane?

When I was a kid, I lived across teh street from a crop dusting airport that flew bi-planes.

I noticed you didn't serve Amrosa when we landed.

Sorry about that but you have to remember this is a small strip..LOL
My flying started when I was young and would go up in the CAP planes.I then fell in love with bi planes when I went out and saw on at the fair...It was love at first sight...Made me think of Snoopy and the Red Baron...
lol..

Breea

Just make sure your bungee cords are holding the landing gear on tight. <g>

If you have never seen the WWI Biplanes, you are missing a real treat. The Champlain Aircraft Museum in Mesa Arizona has a hanger full of WWI Bi Planes as well as an operational and flight worth B-17 called Sentimental Journey.

Jim

P.S. Bungee cords have been around since WWI because that is what they used to hold the wheels on, at least on German aircraft.

I think I was among the very lucky. Among my first friends I had when it came to flying was Col. Robert Morgan..pilot of the Memphis Belle. He was a wonderful , gentle man you would see around the airshows. I still remember my grandmother telling me about the time the Belle came into town on a tour and Col. Morgan flew her on her side between the court house and city hall. She was on the roof of the building when it happened.
Been hooked for a long time.

That is cool Breea. Have you ever see the AAF documentary of the Memphis Belle? A lot different than Hollywood.

My brother met Pappy Boyington at an airshow several years ago.
