The hero, Nick Night, aka Nicholas deBrabant, is a 14th Century Crusader knight-turned-vampire, who now seeks to return to mortality. He works(the night shift) as a Toronto homicide cop, trying to repay society for all he has done. he works with a doctor who knows his secret, while being hounded by his Maker, the evil LaCroix, who will do anything to keep him in "the fold" as it were.
